What don’t we have enough of in Melbourne?

As great as this city is, perhaps we’re just a little jealous that we don’t have certain things that other cities have in plenty.

When you’re visiting other cities around the country, do you ever find yourself wishing… “I wish we had more of this at home”?

What could we do with just a little more of in Melbourne?

I’m not a huge beach person myself, but I think, for many, the obvious choice would be beaches. Melbourne just doesn’t have a truly great beach within its limits. Sure, there are some that are not bad, but compared to say, Sydney, they’re in short supply. Still, I think we in Melbourne have much more that Sydney lacks, and I know where I’d rather live.

Public transport and a ticketing system that works. Alternatives to trains in the western suburbs.

Not enough of: theme parks, security at train stations, road signs (a BIG pet peeve for me!), random maps permanently installed for tourists, inner-city night markets (setup in the laneways), cheap river transport, police, change machines (for public transport and public laundries considering how many apartments there are without space for a washing machine), shelters and or shadey areas at tram stops and some train stations, trains and trams (i.e. not enough carriages or services should be much more frequent), regular festivals/events (i.e. have a fashion/movie/food festival for every season, not just one per year)

Melbourne does not have an areas with synthetic turf. That way, recreational areas could be played on all year round. The areas would be safe, soft and kids less prone to injuries! Also Melbourne would look green all year round and save plenty on water! Happy Days :-)

(I agree with some of the existing posts): Street food, connect 4 in bars, night markets, rollercoasters, free stuff, street bars, encouragement for locals to act like tourists, taxi drivers that know where they are going, drivers that can follow signs

Street markets in the lane ways – fruit and veg, fresh salads, deli counters, hot dogs, cheapy clothes. So annoying that you have to go to Woolies or coals just to buy a few bits of veg. These lanes ways could be better utilised…
