It’s a summer tradition – grabbing a greasy pile of fish and chips from a takeaway shop in a beachfront suburb, and sitting on the beachfront to watch the world go by. There’s plenty of great combinations of fish and chip shop and beach in Melbourne – what’s your favourite?

There’s a few excellent fish and chip shops around Acland Street and Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, but on the flipside, the St Kilda beachfront is also a little bit busier than usual. That said, Elwood beach isn’t too far away and the Elwood Village fish and chip shop does fried pumpkin cakes to die for.

Let’s not forget those further around the bay, either – the Frankston beachfront is quite pretty and there’s lots of fish and chip shops around there too.

Flatheads on the Esplanade at Brighton then a quick dash across to the beach. Lovely. Also the Salty Dog round in Lorne is the best I’ve had anywhere.

Sorrento! The loveliest beach on the peninsula- crystal water which is flat and
perfect for swimming, a jetty which is safe and fun to jump off, plenty of space on the sand to sit and enjoy the freshly cooked fish and chips (cooked in canola oil- not too greasy or heavy) from the local shop.
