The city is becoming more and more choked with traffic… and sometimes you find yourself thinking, “if only there was a tunnel here!”
Do you have any ideas on where the city could do with some tunnels and bridges to get around a bit easier? Which locations?

I don’t think Melbourne needs any more tunnels or bridges. More effort should be put into reducing the amount of traffic and therefore carbon pollution. Research clearly shows that more roads, tunnels and bridges don’t alleviate traffic problems, they only help contribute to increasing traffic.
Bass Strait.
I totally back the Bass Strait idea!
Over Robert Doyle, it would only be a small bridge!
A tunnel from Swan Street to Johnston St/Hotham St/Eastern Freeway would fix a huge proportion of the congestion travelling east to west (and vice versa) through Richmond and Abbotsford.
NO MORE BRIDGES OR TUNNELS! Invest in the bloody frigg’n public transport infrastructure to a level it works well enough people will want to choose it over stupid cars/SUVs. Has not Australia heard about the peak oil issue? Do you really want to invest billions more dollars of tax payer monies into a growingly obsolete form of transport? In a recent study of infrastructure Australia ranked 34th in the developed world — 2 slots below Slovenia and 1 slot ahead of Jordan. So leave the congested freeways so that people will be forced to choose public transport.
Join the Eastern Freeway by tunnel to Citylink under North Carlton and Parkville to join near Royal Park. Just as an aside (since so many people raise it) Public Transport (unless MUCH more infrastructure is built) is not the answer. Most workplaces are absolutely nowhere near suitable contiguous public transport from home.
I agree with Duncan.
We need to invest a far greater percentage of our roads and transport budget on public transport. We desperately need a rail line from the Airport to the City, and we also need massive improvements in the currently existing public transport infrastructure and the trains and trams themselves.
No more tunnels needed, we need to start getting cars off the roads, and as much as that will piss of the oil companies world wide, it needs to start happening now.
Point cook needs more than just bridges more roads as in entry and exit points
Grade separation of Clayton Rd and Dandenong line at Clayton station. Even ambulances going to the Monash Medical Centre are held up there.
