North East China Family is a wonderful, authentic chinese resturant near the corner of Flinders Lane and Elizabeth St. Best know for their delicious dumplings, which make a fanastic meal in their own right, but I highly recommend their dinner menu of dishes specific to the North East region of China. The pride themselves on using the best ingeridents and staff are always warm and friendly. My regular order is Pork and chinese cabbage dumplings, and Fried Beef with Orange Peel (w.pancakes).

Bokchoy Tang at Federation Square has been my fave for the past 3 years. They use very fresh ingredients, and their dishes are delish! The menu is very unique and reasonably priced. Try the Winter Melon soup and the Cumin Lamb.
Bamboo house is a nice restaurant and serves great food!! 47 little bourke street. Highly recommend their duck – but haven’t had anything there I didn’t like.
Shanghai dumpling house on tattersalls lane is yummmmmmmm crazy busy on the weekends but so cheap and so yunm
Great Eastern Hakka, a culinary concept, “from the huge Hakka Chinese community that once lived in India”. So if you’re open to trying a fusion of ‘Indian-Chinese’ food, you can’t really go wrong here. These guys will get your taste buds wanting more. Great ambiance, reasonable pricing and service with a smile, this one’s a sure winner for me. (319 Stephensons Road, Mt Waverley. 9807 3388).
I like Bokchoy TANG too! Great location and good views of Federation square and flinder street station. Yum cha always is my love!

- Dumplings Plus – Swanston St
- Don Dons – Swanston st
- Kim Sing – Port Philip Arcade (for something incredibly quick, I have eaten much better, but for the 30secs you need to wait for your food and the $6-$8 per plate, it’s well worth it!)
- Spicy Fish – China Town
- Hao Phong – Footscray
- Golden Harvest – Footscray

hayley…. mmmm yummm!! Great place to go during uni also! Soooo cheap and quick during lectures!! Although, if you’re happy to spend a few bucks extra, try dumplings plus on Swanston St… it’s much cleaner and a nicer atmosphere!
For me, best Chinese restaurant… Family Kitchen in St.Kilda.
Totally agree! Shanghai Dumpling House is awesome, so cheap and tasty our staff go here for lunch and dinner all of the time :)

Hu Tong, Market Lane, CBD – Seems to take out the Dumpling crown for Melbourne, Great XLB and fresh.
Noodle Kingdom, Preston – Has very fresh Dumplings too.
