If you’ve got a hunger for gourmet chocolate, which Melbourne chocolate shop do you make tracks to?
Some stores have a few specialities - a top chocolate box or chocolate hampers in Melbourne to name a few.
When you need to buy chocolate in Melbourne, where do you go to buy chocolate?

Puh-lease, no contest – Haighs. I go to the store at the top of Collins street, and am always served promptly and nicely, and offered a taste of something – great service, great product.
That’s if you want to buy something special as a present. If you want to eat something delicious straight away, I recommend Max Brenner at Melbourne Central, where you can sit inside in the warm, or out in the covered laneway and people watch. You order at the counter, and the food servings are generous and the drinks are delicious.
But then again, the chocolate mousse martini at Koko Black is sooo decadent. Definitely good for a treat.
You really can’t go too wrong with chocolate in Melbourne!
I’m a sucker for Lindt. I think it is wonderful and creamy and decadent and it will always be my favourite brand of chocolate. The Lindt Cafe on Collins Street does an amazing chocolate sundae if you’re looking for a treat.
I think San Churro has some of the best chocolate treats in the city, the one on Chapel street has amazingly helpful staff and their milkshakes definitely should bring all the boys to the yard.
Rated “Melbourne’s Tastiest Chocolate” by World Chocolate Guide is Collingwood’s own Mamor Chocolates and High Tea. They’re not open a lot. Sign on the door says “Press here for Service”, but if you get in you’ll find the most heavenly Viennese chocolate handmade truffles. The sour cherry in brandy is to die for. Hanna is a food chemist who dreams up the most miraculous flavours.
The best chocolate shop in Melbourne is most definately Shocolate in Fitzroy. The handmade chocolates are exquisite, no preservatives and all fillings made in house. The store is full of walls of chocolate as well as an award winning best chocolate macaron. the service is second to none. All staff are always smiling on all my visits. One wall has their fantastic media write ups including best hot chocolate. A must!
Ganache Chocolate on Toorak Road in South Yarra is awesome (the former Koko Black master chocolatier! He does runs great chocolate making classes too!) and also Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio on Chapel Street in South Yarra, they have amazing chocolates, individual cakes, ice creams, and lots of other goodies! Very addictive! Can’t forget to mention Haighs Chocolates :):)
Omg I gotta try these places… Never been!
Without a doubt SHOCOLATE in Fitzroy ! I travel regularly from Brisbane and since I discovered Shocolate I can’t go home without a visit. I love their awarded chocolate Macaron and enjoy this with a coffee. If in Melbourne with my children they are always wanting a hot chocolate from SHOCOLATE with a chocolate lolly pop because we simply can’t find anywhere else with anything as good! Shocolate are always so friendly and welcoming, it really is an enjoyable experience. Their Easter Eggs are amazing and I can see why they have the best range.
I always leave stocked up with yummy chocolates that don’t last long when I return to Brisbane. There is nothing like it anywhere. YUM Upon my last visit I noticed they have won Australian championships for their assorted chocolate pieces, I’m not surprised. I hope one day they come to Brisbane. Everyone must experience SHOCOLATE, it is amazing :)
I recently discovered this new chocolate boutique in Collins Street. It is called Chocolate Secret and they have most amaizing hand made belgian and french chocolates. Their facebook is updated regularly as they constantly experiment with new tastes.
If your down the Mornington Peninsula …. Mornington Peninsula Chocolates in Flinders have devine home made chocolate. Their award winning lime ganache …. yummmmmmm
I can’t believe that no-one has mentioned Monsieur Truffe, on Smith Street and Lygon Street. They not only make their own wonderful artisanal chocolate, but they import and roast the beans themselves, which is really unusual. You can also see where they make it at the Lygon street shop and cafe.
Xocolatl artisan chocolates & cafe have two boutiques located in Canterbury and Kew. It is a family run business with Christos and Tina (father and daughter) creating the most superb chocolates you will find anywhere. The flavours are innovative with the pair exploring flavour combinations that both surprise and entice your palate. The highest quality couverture (that melts in your mouth) is combined with the freshest ingredients and the chocolates are sold as soon as the they have been created. Honestly the best chocolate chop in Melbourne. My favourite flavours are gianduja apricot, lavender, rose caramel, popcorn, salted caramel, lime ganache, balsamic strawberry and cherry liqueur!
I attended Chocolate Rush last year and Van Nunen Chocolates won the Australian Chocolate Championships’ best assorted range of 16 chocolates. I bought a few boxes and they were just lovely. The chocolatier was a friendly, born and bred in Belgium and worked for some of the largest European manufacturers. Not that it was of a huge concern to me, but I was fairly impressed that their range was largely Gluten and preservative Free.
