Gertrude Street: Cutler & Co + Ladro + Gertrude Street Enoteca + Books for Cooks + Roundhouse Roti + Fatto a Mano +cafes and whatever comes next…
Flinders Lane
Brunswick Street – vegie bar, breakfasts at Django Django, $4 pizza at bimbos, greek food, thai food, pub meals, ice cream shops.
Acland street st kilda – amazing restaurants and phenomenal bakery’s!
And best not forget Hopkins street/Barkly street Footscray!
AMAZING vietnamese food at Hao Phong -cheap, fresh, generous serves and fast. Try; vegetarian spring rolls and grilled chicken rice vermicelli is to die for!
Angan – THE BEST INDIAN I HAVE EVER HAD make sure you eat in the ‘beer garden’ – GORGEOUS
Awash – The best ethiopian food I have ever had! Try vegetarian combination and an imported beer – shop looks rundown but is by far the tastiest thing I’ve ever eaten.
Definitely Lygon Street – the Brunswick end! You have Hellenic Republic, Rumi, Mr Wilkinson, and then Kake di Hatti and Thaila Thai for delicious cheap eats. And there’s also Sugardough patisserie, Baba Levantine Trading Co, Habayib Lebanese restaurant, and Each Peach cafe. Why would you ever leave?? ;)
Reaaly just one….. difficult!
I should be loyal to Chapel Street
Mama Ganoush, Dino’s Deli, us (patersons Cakes), Meilto’s Butcher & Grocery, Cisco’s Coffee, Basque at that is just the Windsor end….
but I also love Victoria Street for all the grocers, seafood and butchers, cheap asian delights and walls of roast pork & ducks!!!!!!! & great cheap (but quality Restaurants) Yummmmmmm
It is just soooo hard -
and I forgot Orange, Tusk and a whole lot more in Chapel Street WINDOR! !!!!!
Have to agree with Stephen re: Flinders Lane. Wander the length of it and you get Coda, Jpurnal, Breadwell, Muu. Deviate for the original (best) Movida, and Verge.
Flinders Lane and all of its accompanying laneways is hard to go past for me.
Sydney road. So much diversity and really good prices.
You have Penny Black serving nightly bargains, their $6 pizzas on Tuesday are one of Melbourne’s best. Amazing Moroccan and Spanish (I think) food at La Paella. Really good Lebanese feasts at Tibas. One of the best cafes in Melbourne at the Green Refractory. Excellent and great value Afghani at the Lazy Camel. And lots of great finds just off Sydney Rd such as La Paloma and the ones on Victoria Rd.
They’re not all in as close proximity as some of the other streets mentioned here but they’re all great places.
Got to be Sydney rd for variety and price.
