For food shopping - Carlisle St., Balaclava (largest selection of kosher food in Melbourne). High St Northcote for books, clothes and general noodling. Even though I live in St Andrews now, I will travel back to these areas. The Salvos on the Windsor St end of Chapel St is my favourite op shop! If I HAVE to go to a shopping centre, it's Doncaster - I like the fact that the design includes a reasonable amount of natural light, and the food court actually has some interesting options for the whole family.
