We all have thoughts on how we can improve Melbourne’s rail system. However which Melbourne railway station do you reckon has to be the most hideous?
Is it located in the CBD or elsewhere? What would you do to better it?

Moorabbin station, from the perspective of someone on a train, looks like a Cold War relic. Huge concrete walls, lots of cyclone fencing, dreary and ugly.
One stop north is Patterson which is a homage to pebble dash and aluminium fencing. Also it is elevated and the underside is dark, dreary and exposed.
Such a constrast to the prettier stations like Hawksburn or Camberwell (while it lasts).
Frankston definetly the scariest and most dengerous
Tottenham Station on the Sydenham line is old, dark and antiquated, you need to go under a train bridge with double b trucks within centimetres from you. The tunnel has open drainage so yopu are walking trough water and is unsafe.
Why is frankston so dark and dangerus???
Anyone who has traveled to Europe and Asia would know that ALL of our train stations are poor. Overcrowded trains, not enough services, trains travel out into the suburbs far enough – government is happy to allow housing estates to build further and further out, but doesn’t build the infrastructure to go with it. And the fact that Melbourne does not have a Melbourne Airport rail link to the city is also a disgrace. When will the government wake up and realise it needs to be fixed??!!
Footscray, St. Albans, Sunshine from my experience.
Altona, especially since the timetable changed in May. Few trains, long waits, a shuttle service off peak and no station staff. Only one Myki reader. Laverton isn’t too good either – steep steps plus lifts that break down frequently stranding people with disabilites on the platform. Plenty of room for improvement!
Laverton station most definitely. It’s dodgy and scary, and some of the people who hang out there are just…yeah…no comment necessary.
DANDENONG
No need to leave a comment or reasons why everyone listens to the news….
Craigieburn, a lot of trouble maker youth.
Merinda Park (Cranbourne Line): limited parking, no facilities, limited cover if raining and just embarrassing.
I’ve travelled around the world and we do have some of the worst stations.
+1 for Tottenham. A wind tunnel when you’re standing on the platform, no shelter, no staff, and the aforementioned Godawful underpass to get to the station .
