St Andrews Market. Becos it is unique and funky and chilled out and you find a lot of unusual goods! And delicious poffertjes!

Preston Market is the best for fruit and vegies, and the like. Very Multicultural, and a favourite routine as part of My Saturdays.

Rose St Market in Fitzroy is good for a wander too.

Definitely Camberwell market and St Andrew for me. Lots of lovely treasure to be found at affordable prices too.

I love this market the best – Take 2 Markets is an occasional market with the BEST range of recycled women’s wear I have ever seen. I always shop there, in fact I rarely need to shop anywhere else. I suggest to all women that if you haven’t already discovered this shopping mecca, then do so at the next market which is on Sunday 17 October.

QUEEN VICTORIA MARKET, ESPECIALLY SUZUKI NIGHT MARKET! EVEN IF IT’S ONLY DURING THE SUMMER AND IT’S ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT… IT’S AMAZING. THEY NEED TO DO IT EVERY WEEK.

The once a year Black Market!
It’s so special to see all the goths, rockers, rockabilly babes & circus types hanging out, selling amazing 2nd boots, corsets, frocks & the melbourne alt labels selling beautiful handmade creations with live music in a giant sharehouse backyard… Sitting back on the veranda, having a cider and watching the community grow as people make friends and meeting new peeps is AWESOMELY gorgeous..

Treasures & Tastes @ Trinity – in Surrey Hills on the third Saturday of each month. Great hand-made items including cards, knit ware, clothes, jewellery, soaps, baby clothes, ornaments & Christmas decorations, jams, wine, fresh vegetables, cakes, olives, honey, letter boxes and bird feeders, plants plus knife sharpening, sausage sizzle & Devonshire tea. Many unique items that make great gifts.

Been a while since I’ve been to Queen Victoria market. I went there last time I was down in Melbourne and was disappointed, it’s not as good as I remembered it to be.

You can get some cheap produce there (fruit/veg) if you look. Oh and that little deli alleyway near there; I remember getting some good cheeses there.

The BEST market is the Kinglake Community Market at the gorgeous, new Bollygum Park in Kinglake. Amazing adventure playground for kids with the market throughout the park. Beautiful atmosphere at a park that holds so much hope and healing for the whole community. They have it every second Sunday of the month 10am – 2pm (except winter.) Next market this Sunday. Brilliant atmosphere.

Depends on what you’re after, but:
1) Camberwell Market. Great vibe, and lots of different things to cover different tastes. Some fantastic name brand clothing there at bargain basement prices. I have a great coat I got there 10 years ago I still wear, and it was only $25 with a shirt. Bargaining is expected.

2) @Take2Markets is fantastic clothing market for women’s clothes, and only women’s clothes (with occasional bits of jewellery and skin care type stuff). Bargaining is accepted, but not as regular, and some stall holders are less inclined to move, but there are always bargains around.

3) Box Hill Fresh Food Market. Part of Box Hill Centro, and open most days. Fantastic fruit and veg, fresh meat and fish, and Asian groceries. While bargaining is not common, it does happen, but most places have fantastic bargains. I always go there for my groceries before the supermarket, and have my grocery bills.

4) Preston Market. Similar to Box Hill, but much more European in style.

5) Rose St Market. Some fantastic art stuff, but much more pricey than most other markets, and not a huge range, but good for a lazy afternoon window shop.

Preston without a doubt! I have been a regular there on Saturday mornings for many years and you can’t beat the friendliness of the place but please don’t go there for the architecture!! A few favourites: Farnacci Deli (Nino and Anna and their family are gems), Con’s Deli (despite the owner Bill barracking for the Pies!!), the wonderful Camuglia family and their greengrocery (they barrack for the right team too; go Roos!), Sam the bread man, Rosemary and Tony who sell me my soap and toothpaste and the guy who sells the nuts and health products. Everyone there is marvellous though! A great range of choices for a coffee and a snack too!

I have had a policy of getting everything possible there rather than from a supermarket as I am supporting local family run businesses. My exceptions are meat which I get from Brenta and Biviano’s in Fairfield and a handful of grocery items I get at local IGA stores.

Way to go if you live north of the Yarra!!

Definitely Collingwood Childrens Farm Farmers Market and Gasworks Farmer Markets. Both are accredited by the Victorian Farmers Market Association. They are the only legitimate market operators who actually do and mean what they say. Plus, there’s no middleman, you buy direct from the grower or producer and importantly, all the produce is local.
