Around Albert Park Lake. Great views, you can do as many loops as you like, and plenty of places to go afterwards for a coffee, bite to eat, or a beer!

Definitely Albert Park. It’s not too far and you can take in the surroundings, swans, pelicans etc.

The Yarra Trail, in the North-Eastern suburbs, is beautiful; plenty of shadey stretches under the trees, the Yarra bubbling past, and lots of wombats in the early mornings, too! The best thing is the nice, even gravel surface. Soft to run on, but not muddy when it rains.

Not on the Tan, which is for people to drive their 4WD and park before enjoying the carbon-burning lighting put up by Melbourne City Council.

I do a 7km circuit from the City around Treasury Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens, Yarra Park (so long as it’s not full of cars), Gosch’s Paddock past the unnecessary rectangular stadium and through the playing fields leased to professional sports clubs, cross that Yarra at the Morell Bridge, through the botanical gardens, out the observatory gate, Kings Domain along the west side of Birdwood Ave to avoid the Tan, back into the city alongside the Queen Victoria Gardens and cross the Yarra at Princes Bridge.

NIKDOW, not everyone who runs around the Tan drives there – some, like myself, are locals. At different times my home running circuit has been Albert Park Lake, Princess Park and currently it’s the Tan. The Tan is the best by far. You will always have a stiff head wind one direction around Albert Park lake, without fail. Princess Park is ok but the slog along Royal Parade is long, flat and boring (unless college girls are out running too). The Tan is always sheltered from the wind and is sufficiently undulating to keep you interested.

However, nothing beats running along from Port Melbourne to Elstenwick along the foreshore on a blistering hot Melbourne summer afternoon.

Princes Park, if you do the extension out to the train station it’s a nice 5K loop.

Half the fun of going for a run is for the people watching and to have a perve on other runners/walkers. Tan wins hands down!!

The place around the Sidney Myer Music bowl, near the Shrine. Thats pretty good! Albert Park and Fitzroy Gardens are also good! Citywise!
