Dinkums in the city. Been around for decades and decades and still know how to pack them in. Love their cottage Pie.
An old favourite is Williamson’s in Chapel St.

There used to be Sid’s pies in Melbourne. Sid had a factory in Yarraville and supplied a lot of local factory canteens including James Hardie. When the JH canteen updated its management they changed their pie supplier. The staff put a black ban on the canteen and sids pies were back in a day or two.
In memory of Sid.

I agree with Dinkums Pies for a Melbourne pie.
But the best pies in Australia are from the Bendigo bakery, Gillies Pies. And their snot blocks (aka vanilla slices) are to die for
In Victoria it’s Kerang bakery. I travel there just to buy half a dozen and then pop into Gillies Pies in Bendigo on the way back but in Melbourne it would have to be Heather Del in Yarraville.
Diamond Village bakery in Watsonia or Sargents of Reservoir
