Exactly why is Melbourne so much better than Sydney or Brisbane?

having lived in both cities, I find that Melbourne, while being a big city, still has a lot of that “small town” friendliness.
Bah, Ive had the misfortune of living in Brisbane. It is just a big hick town where nothing interesting ever happens. Can’t speak for Sydney, never been there.
Having lived in Sydney all my life, Melbourne’s miles ahead when it comes to Culture, Art, Music, shopping and friendly people. The roads are better and the shopping is out of this world. The markets are fantastic. The craft scene is huge and for the first time ever I feel like a part of a community. Best move I ever made.
melbourne has to have nice people cultural things etc….Coz its a Fukn ugly city with SHIT beaches!!

yes im biased but id have to say melbourne cuz u dont have to go to the cbd to find everything like sydney.. seriously if u take away the opera house and the harbour bridge sydney would be like plunging to the botttom of the ladder. melbournes got the mcg the biggest in the world, the crown casino and so much more!! WONT U LOOK AT THAT PICTURE! MELBOURNE ALL THE WAY! :p
Melbourne’s Crown Casino is the largest casino in Australia, Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre is the largest in Australia and Melbourne’s Fountain Gate Shopping Centre is the second largest in Australia and Melbourne also has the largest tower in Australia.
Melbourne has more company than sydney and Melbourne has the largest tram network in the world and the largest railway in Australia at 4000km.
Brisbane? Never heard of it.
Public transport is cheap. Unlike Sydney where it takes $17 to get to a suburb. Haven’t been to Brisbane, but it sounds like nothing is there anyway. Melbourne’s a rather nice looking city too, I feel Sydney is just not as eye catching as Melbourne is. I love our street art, shopping and interesting little places you just stumble upon.
Whoever said Melbourne’s roads are better hasn’t tried to get from Brighton to Eltham. No main arterial on the Eastern side of the city. Unless you call Hoddle Street a main Rd. It’s a joke.
Melbourne has much better roads than both Sydney and Brisbane!!!
Roads in Melbourne are wider plus they have more lanes.
Melbourne city roads are bigger while Melbourne also has Australia’s largest freeway network!
Melbourne is one of the safest in the world because the frequently stopping trams beak up traffic and because in certain places the tram track is down the middle of the road, even when Melbourne is in grid lock A ambulance can always get around.
Melbourne sounds like it should come in second, straight after Sawtell… :p
@tregeagle, no, Melbourne comes in first, seeing the fact Melbourne already comes in first in everything!
Melbourne is the worlds most livable city and is the Sports Capital of the world while also having heaps more ratings in other areas such as being in the top 5 business cities of the world etc.
while Melbourne also has things such as the worlds largest tram network of such.

Having lived in Sydney, it’s a dull city. The place shuts down after about 9:00 pm!! Melbourne has it beaten for sport, arts, culture, music and food – although I will say Sydney has better beaches… And, as King Wally Lewis once said, “Sydney’s a nice enough place – its just a shame it’s full of a–holes”…
As for Brisbane? It seemed okay – but doesn’t have the diversity of Melbourne…
